Sometimes, L shaped anchor bolts are also used where there are heavy earthquake loads to be transferred to concrete foundations.
Along with anchor bolts, steel templates are also supplied in order to ensure that anchor bolts are cast in place at an exact location to match with base plate of steel columns.
Purpose of an embed plate is to transfer load from steel framing to concrete wall / foundation. Headed studs are welded on embed plates to provide shear and axial resistance. Also, nail holes are provided on embed plate to secure it in position while concrete is cast.
